Nobody can deny the significant role of a grandparent in a child’s life. They are the ones who love your children as much as you do yourself.

“Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparent’s sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.” – Alex Haley

You might be exhausted after your long hours of work, but your parents will shower your children with abundant love. They will willingly spend and enjoy time with their grandchildren. They likely retired and have more than enough time to focus on their grandkids.

Grandparents will take your child off your hands by taking them on walks, reading to them, telling them bedtime stories, tucking them in bed, and cooking for them, all for nothing. They are the grandparents, and they are allowed to spoil and shower their grandchildren with extra love, attention, and treats!

The Role of a Grandparent

The presence of grandparents provides a steady discipline to children. They act as guides, problem solvers, friends, and even stress relievers for the kids. Children may find it easier to approach grandparents more than their parents. With all the wisdom that comes with years of experience, grandparents are the perfect, patient teachers for them.

It is proven that children who have strong relationships with their grandparents suffer less from behavioral and emotional problems than those who grow up without them.

Grandparents teach lessons to their grandchildren without them even realizing that they are learning a whole set of values. Children naturally grow into physically and emotionally healthy adults by spending quality time together, playing games, and having fun. Children’s strong connection with their grandparents builds their confidence, helps them cope with stress better, and is a building block for their self-esteem.

Family traditions, customs, and stories of other relatives who are no longer alive are handed down by grandparents. They keep the family history alive. Holidays and important occasions become more meaningful and turn into large family gatherings where children learn to love, respect, and value each relationship under their grandparents’ stern but loving eyes.

The relationship between the grandparent and the grandchild is precious and children must treasure it wholeheartedly. It makes grandchildren’s lives so much better, richer, and happier in so many ways. This relationship has a positive impact on the well-being and the happiness of the whole family. Grandparents provide in abundance companionship, and their creativity and imagination make for a perfect relationship between them and their grandchildren to help the latter explore and discover the numerous wonders of life.

How Grandparent’s Benefit from this Relationship

The emotional closeness between both parties restores the elderly grandparent’s energy, helps boost their brain function, and protects them from depression. They come back to life and even have a higher life expectancy due to the presence of grandchildren.

Grandparents are role models. The example you set will instill positive values in grandchildren, which they will emulate when growing up.

“What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies.” – Rudy Giuliani.
